Oils by intention
Protection and cleansing oils
Oils people use to guard the home, clear out what feels heavy, and keep envy and bad intentions away.
People come in for protection when something feels wrong. A run of bad luck that won't stop. A neighbor or coworker who seems to wish them harm. A house that feels heavy after an argument or a loss. In the tradition, the first step is to clean, and the second is to close the door behind you.
For cleaning out, people use Cleansing, Uncrossing or Jinx Breaker, often in the mop water. Against envy and the evil eye, they choose Against Envy or Against Evil Eye. To guard the house once it is clean, Full Protection, Fiery Wall and Bless This Home are the usual picks. Rue and Garlic are old household protections, and Reverse Evil is for sending back what was sent.
St. Michael is the saint most asked for protection, with St. Benedict and St. Barbara close behind. White candles are traditional for cleansing, and Tuesday and Saturday are the usual days for protection.
How people use them
- In mop water and around the house
- Add a few drops to the mop water, mop from the back of the house toward the front door, then throw the water out the door.
- On doors and windows
- Put a drop at the top of each door frame and one on each side, or trace a small cross with the oil.
- On a candle
- Put a few drops on a white seven-day candle and set it near the front door.
- In the car
- Before a long trip, put a drop on each of the four tires.
