About this oil
Rue takes its name from ruda, the strong-smelling herb that many Mexican and Central American families keep in a pot by the front door. People reach for this oil against envy and the evil eye, and to clear the house after a bad stretch: a fight, a run of bad luck, a visit that left a heavy feeling. Many customers grew up with a rue plant at their grandmother's door.
Tuesdays and Fridays are the days many families clean the house of bad luck, and those are the days people use Rue. It goes with a white or green candle, and often with a glass of water set behind the front door. The oil is green, with a fresh clover scent.
Ways to use
- On doors and windows
- On a Tuesday or a Friday, put a drop at the top of the front door frame and one on each side. If you keep a rue plant by the door, put a drop on the rim of its pot.
- In mop water and around the house
- After a fight or a bad visit, add a few drops to the mop water. Mop from the back of the house to the front door and throw the water out into the street.
- On charm bags, stones and medals
- Put a drop on an azabache (a black jet charm) pinned to a baby's crib or stroller, and add a drop again every Friday.
- On a candle
- Put a few drops on a white seven-day candle and set it near the front door, with a glass of water beside it. Change the water when the candle finishes.
