About this oil
Black Hen is the oil people use when they believe witchcraft has been done against them or their home: sudden bad luck, fights with no cause, the feeling that someone wishes them ill. In Mexican folk practice the black hen has long been used in cleansings against witchcraft, so her name is given to an oil for clearing it off and keeping it away. The oil carries her name only; it contains no animal parts.
Black Hen is used from the inside out: the house first, then the doors. Its candle is white, or black when the trouble is strong. Afterward, many people light a white candle for peace. The oil is clear, with a frankincense and myrrh scent.
Ways to use
- In mop water and around the house
- Add a few drops to the mop water and mop from the back of the house to the front door. Throw the water out into the street.
- On a candle
- Put a few drops on a white or black candle and set it in the room that feels the heaviest.
- On doors and windows
- When the house is clean, mark a small cross with the oil on the frame of each outside door.
- On charm bags, stones and medals
- Put a drop on an azabache (a black jet charm) or a saint medal, and keep it in your purse or the car.
