About this oil
The Holy Cross of Caravaca is the cross with two crossbars kept in the town of Caravaca de la Cruz, in Spain. Tradition says that in 1231 two angels brought it down from heaven so a captive priest could say Mass, and that the Moorish king who saw it became a Christian. For centuries, families have kept its medal and its prayer in the home, for protection and to ask for luck and work.
Its feast is May 3, the Day of the Holy Cross. Devotees hang the cross over the front door, keep its medal in a wallet, and keep its prayer on the altar. Its candles are gold or yellow, with white for giving thanks. The oil is gold.
Ways to use
- On doors and windows
- Put a drop on the Caravaca cross that hangs over the front door, and trace a small cross of oil on the door frame beneath it.
- On charm bags, stones and medals
- Put a drop on a Caravaca medal and keep it in your wallet or in the glove box. Add another drop on the first of each month.
- On the altar and saint statues
- Put a drop on the base of the cross on your altar and on the gold candle in front of it while you pray its prayer.
- On a candle
- On May 3, put a few drops on a white seven-day candle to give thanks for the year.
