About this oil
St. Cyprian of Antioch is honored by the Church as a bishop and martyr. Tradition says that as a young man he practiced sorcery, until a Christian woman, St. Justina, turned it away with the sign of the cross. He became a Christian, then a bishop, and died a martyr with her. Because he knew both sides, people pray to him when they feel someone has done something against them, or that bad luck has been sent to the house.
His feast, with St. Justina, is September 26. His candle is purple, and many devotees keep his holy card beside it and pray the prayer of St. Cyprian, a traditional prayer to undo harm sent by others. The oil is purple, with a warm ylang and ginger scent.
Ways to use
- On the altar and saint statues
- Put a drop on the corners of St. Cyprian's holy card and on the base of his statue, and keep the oil off his face. Many devotees do it on the 26th of the month.
- On a candle
- Put a few drops on a purple seven-day candle and pray the prayer of St. Cyprian when you light it. Some light a white candle next to it for St. Justina.
- On doors and windows
- When you feel something bad has been sent to the house, trace a small cross with the oil on the frame of each outside door, the way St. Justina made the sign of the cross.
- With a written prayer or photo
- Write plainly what you want undone, without anyone's name. Put a drop on the paper, fold it away from you and keep it under his candle.
