About this oil
St. Clare of Assisi, a follower of St. Francis, founded the order of nuns known as the Poor Clares. Her name means light and clearness, and that is why people come to her: when they can't see a situation clearly, when a decision has them going in circles, when there is confusion in the house or lies being told. People ask her to make things clear.
Her feast day is August 11. She is shown holding a monstrance, the gold stand that holds the Blessed Sacrament. Tradition says she raised it at the convent door to turn back an army. Brides still bring eggs to Poor Clare nuns to ask for prayers for clear skies on the wedding day. The oil is clear, with a frankincense and myrrh scent.
Ways to use
- On the altar and saint statues
- Put a drop on the base of her statue or on the corners of her holy card, and on the white candle in front of it.
- On a candle
- When you have a decision to make, put a few drops on a white seven-day candle and ask her to show you the way plainly.
- With a written prayer or photo
- Write your question in one plain sentence. Put a drop on the paper, fold it toward you and keep it under her candle until it burns out.
- With offerings
- Before a wedding or an outdoor celebration, many families bring her a dozen eggs, or take them to a convent of Poor Clare nuns. Put a drop on the white candle you light for her.
