About this oil
Sacred Heart is the oil for devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the heart crowned with thorns and burning with love for the world. Many families hang a blessed picture of the Sacred Heart in the home and dedicate the house to him, so that Christ is the head of the family. People reach for this oil when they make that dedication and when they pray for a son or daughter who has drifted away.
His feast falls on a Friday in June, and June is his month. Many keep the First Fridays, receiving Communion on the first Friday of nine months in a row. His candle is red, for the fire of his love, or white. The oil is red, with a sweet rose scent.
Ways to use
- On the altar and saint statues
- Put a drop on the corners of his holy card or the frame of his picture. Keep the oil off the face and the heart.
- On doors and windows
- Many homes keep a small Sacred Heart plaque by the front door. When you bless the house, put a drop on the door frame beside it.
- On a candle
- On the first Friday of the month, put a few drops on a red candle and set it before him.
- With offerings
- In June, bring him red roses and put a drop on the rim of the vase.
