About this oil
St. Martin de Porres was a Dominican brother in Lima, Peru, the son of a Spanish nobleman and a freed Black woman. He swept the friary, fed the poor at its door and made peace between families. Families come to him when the people under one roof can't get along: brothers who stopped speaking, in-laws sharing a house, a blended family still finding its way.
He is not St. Martin Caballero, the saint on horseback for business. Martin de Porres is the one in the black and white habit with a broom, and a dog, a cat and a mouse eating from one dish. His feast is November 3. His candle is white or purple. The oil is clear, with a frankincense and myrrh scent.
Ways to use
- On the altar and saint statues
- On November 3, or any day the house feels tense, put a drop on the base of his statue and on the white candle in front of it. Keep the oil off the saint's face.
- On a candle
- Put a few drops on a white seven-day candle, with a photo of the family under the glass. Light it when everyone is home.
- With a written prayer or photo
- Write the names of the people at odds side by side on one paper, the way the dog, the cat and the mouse shared one dish. Put a drop on each corner and keep it under his candle.
- In mop water and around the house
- He is the saint of the broom. Sweep the house first, then add a few drops to the mop water and mop from the front door toward the back.
