About this salt
Miraculous Mother salt is for devotion to Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal. In 1830 she appeared to a young nun, St. Catherine Labouré, in a convent chapel in Paris and asked her to have a medal made. Families who keep her medal over the door or on the rearview mirror reach for this salt to place the house and the people in it under her care: a child leaving home, a family going through a hard time, a house that has had a long run of trouble.
Many keep a small dish of salt beside her image on the home altar, with a blue candle. A thin line goes across the front door, under the medal hung above it, and a little goes in the corners of the house. As they put it down, many pray the words around the medal: O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.
Sweep the corners and the doorway out the front door once a week, and change the dish at the same time. Her feast is November 27, and the nine days of her novena before it are a good time to start with fresh salt. Catherine said the stones on her rings that gave no light were the graces people forget to ask for, so ask her for the small things too. Her colors are blue and white.
Ways to use
- On her altar
- Set a small dish of salt beside her image. Change it every week, when you light a new candle.
- Under her medal
- Hang her medal above the front door and sprinkle a thin line of salt across the threshold below it.
- The corners of the house
- Put a little in the corners of each room, praying her prayer in each one. Sweep it out the front door after a week.
- For her novena
- On the first of the nine days before November 27, put down fresh salt and light a blue candle before her picture.
Goes with
Put a few drops of Miraculous Mother oil on a blue seven-day candle beside the dish of salt. The two hearts on the back of her medal are the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, so many keep her beside the Sacred Heart, and Guardian Angel goes with the medal in the car.
