About this oil
Miraculous Mother is the oil for devotion to Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal. In 1830 she appeared to a young nun, St. Catherine Labouré, in a convent chapel in Paris and asked her to have a medal made. People reach for this oil to pray to her for their family, and to bless a medal before giving it to a child leaving home or a friend going through a hard time.
Her feast is November 27. On the medal, rays of light stream down from her rings. Catherine said the stones that gave no light were the graces people forget to ask for. Her colors are blue and white, from her mantle and robe. The oil is blue.
Ways to use
- On charm bags, stones and medals
- Put a drop on a Miraculous Medal before you give it, and say the prayer written around it: O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.
- On a candle
- Put a few drops on a blue seven-day candle when you begin her novena, the nine days before November 27. Set it before her picture, and keep the oil off her face.
- With a written prayer or photo
- Ask her for everything, the small things too. Write your request down plainly, put a drop on the paper and set it under her candle.
- In the car
- Many keep her medal hanging from the rearview mirror. Put a drop on the medal when you hang it, and again before a long drive.
