About this oil

St. Jude is the patron saint of difficult and desperate cases. People reach for his oil when they have run out of places to turn: a lost job with the rent due, a son in trouble with the law, immigration papers stuck for years. Devotees light his candle to ask for help, and come back to light another to give thanks. Many keep a promise to him for years.

His feast day is October 28, and in Mexico the churches fill on the 28th of every month. His colors are green and white, from the green cloak over his white robe. Devotees pray his novena, nine days of prayer, and keep his holy card or statue on the home altar. The oil is green, with a fresh clover scent.

Ways to use

On the altar and saint statues
On the 28th, put a drop on the base of St. Jude's statue and on the green candle in front of it. Keep the oil off the saint's face.
On a candle
On the first day of his novena, put a few drops on a green seven-day candle, so it burns through most of the nine days.
With a written prayer or photo
Write down your request plainly: the name, the court date or the debt. Keep the paper under his candle until the nine days are over.
With offerings
When the favor is granted, give thanks. Put a drop on the flowers you bring him and on a white candle of thanks.
