About this oil
St. Martin Caballero, St. Martin of Tours, was a Roman soldier on horseback who cut his cloak in two with his sword to share it with a freezing beggar. Because he gave so freely, Mexican shopkeepers took him as the patron of business. His picture hangs by the register in stores, restaurants and taco stands, with a prayer that customers keep coming and the shop never goes without.
His feast is November 11. Owners leave a small offering for his horse beside his picture: a little hay or dry grass and a glass of water, changed every week. A horseshoe often hangs next to him. His candle is green, or red for his cloak. The oil is green, with a fresh clover scent.
Ways to use
- In your wallet or business
- When you open the week, put a drop on the corners of the register and on the frame of his picture beside it.
- With offerings
- Put a drop on the bundle of hay you leave for his horse, and change the water every week.
- On doors and windows
- Put a drop on the frame of the front door, the door customers come through.
- On the altar and saint statues
- Put a drop on the base of his statue and on the green candle in front of him. Keep the oil off his face.
