About this oil
St. Anthony of Padua is the saint people turn to for what is lost: keys, papers, a ring, sometimes a person who has drifted away. He is also the saint of those hoping for a good husband or wife, and in Mexico many young women pray to him on his feast day, June 13. And he is a friend of the poor. Many churches still give out St. Anthony's bread.
Many devotees pray to him on thirteen Tuesdays in a row, since Tuesday is his day. He is shown in the brown robe of the Franciscans, holding the Child Jesus and a white lily. His candles are brown or white. The oil is pink, for the love so many people ask him for.
Ways to use
- On the altar and saint statues
- On a Tuesday, put a drop on the base of his statue and on the candle in front of it. Keep the oil off his face and the Child's.
- With a written prayer or photo
- Write down plainly what you are looking for: the lost thing, or the kind of person you hope to marry. Keep the paper under his candle through the thirteen Tuesdays.
- On a candle
- On June 13, or on the first of the thirteen Tuesdays, put a few drops on a white seven-day candle.
- With offerings
- When you find what you asked for, give thanks the old way: bring bread for the poor box at church, and put a drop on a white candle of thanks.
