About this oil
The Ánima Sola, the Lonely Soul, is a soul in purgatory, shown as a woman in chains among the flames, looking up for mercy. Devotees pray for her rest, and in return they ask for her help. People come to her most often when someone they love has gone away or gone silent, and they want to stay in that person's thoughts.
Monday is the day the tradition gives to the souls in purgatory, so people light her candle on a Monday, most often at night. A glass of water goes beside it for the souls. Her candle is red, and many pray an Our Father for her each time they light it. The oil is red, with a sweet rose scent.
Ways to use
- On a candle
- On a Monday night, put a few drops on a red candle and pray for her before you ask for anything.
- With a written prayer or photo
- Write the person's name on a piece of paper and set it under her candle. Pray for her rest first, then make your request.
- With offerings
- Set a fresh glass of water beside her candle and put a drop on its rim. Change the water every Monday.
- On the altar and saint statues
- Put a drop on the corners of her holy card. Keep the oil off her face.
