About this oil
St. Juan Diego, called San Diego at many botanicas, is the first Indigenous saint of the Americas, the humble man the Virgin of Guadalupe chose at Tepeyac in 1531. The bishop didn't believe him until he brought his tilma full of roses cut in December. People come to him when they feel small or unheard, and ask him to carry their prayer to her, as he carried her message.
His feast is December 9, the day of the first apparition, three days before hers. On December 12 many families bring their little ones to Mass in white cotton and a small tilma, as Juan Diego, to be blessed. Roses are his sign, and his white candle burns beside hers. The oil is clear, with a frankincense and myrrh scent.
Ways to use
- On a candle
- Put a few drops on a white seven-day candle on December 9. Lit on his day, it is still burning on hers.
- With a written prayer or photo
- Write your request plainly, the way he spoke to the Virgin, and set the paper under his candle.
- On the altar and saint statues
- Put a drop on the base of his statue or the corners of his holy card, and set him beside the Virgin. Leave his face alone.
- With offerings
- Put a drop on the roses you bring him on December 9, or on the flowers you leave by his picture any time you have something to ask.
