About this oil
Perpetual Help is the oil for devotion to Our Lady of Perpetual Help. In her old icon, the Child Jesus has just seen two angels carrying the cross, the nails and the spear. He has run to his mother so fast that one sandal has come loose. People come to her the same way. They bring her the worries that don't end in a week: a son or daughter in trouble, a long wait for work, a family that keeps struggling.
Her feast is June 27. Many parishes pray her novena every Wednesday, and families keep Wednesday for her at home too. Her candle is white, and her mantle is blue over a red robe. The oil is clear, with a frankincense and myrrh scent.
Ways to use
- On a candle
- On a Wednesday, put a few drops on a white seven-day candle and light it when you pray her novena. Many keep a candle going for her week after week.
- With a written prayer or photo
- Write down plainly the need you have been carrying, with the names of the people in it. Put a drop on the paper, set it under her candle and add a drop each Wednesday.
- On the altar and saint statues
- Put a drop on the frame or the corners of her picture, and on the candle in front of it. Keep the oil off her face and the Child's.
- On charm bags, stones and medals
- Put a drop on a Perpetual Help medal or holy card before you give it to a mother worried about her children.
