About this oil
Orula, also called Orunmila, is the orisha of wisdom and destiny in the Yoruba and Lucumí tradition. He witnessed each person's destiny before birth, and he speaks through Ifá, the divination his priests, the babalawos, practice. Those who follow the tradition honor him to ask for wisdom, for a clear mind before a big decision, and to stay on the road their life is meant to take.
His colors are green and yellow. His feast is October 4, the day of St. Francis of Assisi, with whom he is identified in Cuba. At home, this oil is for his candle and his offerings. Readings, ceremonies and anything beyond a candle belong with a babalawo. The oil is green, with a fresh clover scent.
Ways to use
- On a candle
- On October 4, or before an important decision, put a few drops on a green or yellow seven-day candle and ask him for good judgment.
- On the altar and saint statues
- If you have received Orula, ask your babalawo before putting oil on anything consecrated. The oil goes on the candle beside it.
- With offerings
- Put a drop on the candle you light next to his offering, whether fruit or the offering your babalawo has advised.
