About this oil

The Niño Fidencio is the beloved folk saint of Espinazo, a small desert town in Nuevo León, Mexico. In the 1920s and 30s thousands traveled there to see him, and his devotees, the fidencistas, still come today. People turn to him in hard times, for a family that needs watching over, and to give thanks for favors received. Many keep his picture on the home altar beside the saints.

Twice a year, in March and in October, pilgrims fill Espinazo, many all in white, to visit his tomb and the pepper tree, el pirul, where he received people. His color is white, and devotees set a white candle and a glass of water before his picture. The oil is clear, with a frankincense and myrrh scent.

Ways to use

On the altar and saint statues
Put a drop on the corners of his picture and on the white candle in front of it. Keep the oil off his face.
On a candle
Before a pilgrimage, or in the days of his feast in March or October, put a few drops on a white seven-day candle with a glass of clear water beside it.
With a written prayer or photo
Write your request and your promise to him on one paper. Put a drop on each corner and keep it under his candle until it burns out.
With offerings
When the favor comes, give thanks. Put a drop on the white flowers you bring him, and change his glass of water.
