About this oil
St. Toribio Romo, Santo Toribio Romo, was a young priest from Santa Ana de Guadalupe, in the highlands of Jalisco. He died a martyr in 1928, during the Cristero War, and was named a saint in 2000. Today he is known as the patron of migrants. People pray to him for a son, a husband or a sister working far from home, and for the family waiting for a call.
His feast days are February 25, the day he died, and May 21, with the other Mexican martyrs. When migrants come home to visit, many go to his shrine in Santa Ana to give thanks. His candle is white, and the oil is clear. At home, families keep his picture beside the photos of the ones who are away.
Ways to use
- With a written prayer or photo
- Write the name of the person who is away and the city where they live now. Put a drop on the paper and keep it under his candle.
- On the altar and saint statues
- Put a drop on the base of his statue or the corners of his holy card, and on the frames of the family photos beside him. Keep the oil off his face.
- On a candle
- On his feast days, or any night you are waiting for news, put a few drops on a white seven-day candle and pray for the one who is away.
- On charm bags, stones and medals
- Put a drop on a small medal or holy card of St. Toribio before you give it to someone who is leaving home to work.
