About this oil
Lucky Buddha takes its name from the smiling, round figure of good fortune that sits in so many shops and restaurants. He is Budai, the laughing monk of Chinese folk tradition, a figure of plenty and good cheer. Shop owners use the oil to ask for steady business and good luck, and many keep his statue near the register or facing the front door.
Traditionally the statue gets small offerings: coins at his base, a little bowl of rice, an orange or a tangerine. Some people tuck a dollar bill under him on the first of the month and leave it there. His candle is gold or yellow. The oil is gold.
Ways to use
- On the altar and saint statues
- Put a drop on the base of the statue, never on the face, and on the gold candle beside it. Many shop owners do it on the first of the month.
- With offerings
- When you set out coins, rice or an orange in front of the statue, put a drop on the rim of the dish. Keep the offering fresh.
- In your wallet or business
- Put a drop on the corners of the cash drawer and on the first bill of the day, and set that bill under the statue.
