About this oil
Gentle Lamb is the oil people reach for when they want things to go softly. A hard talk is coming with a parent or a partner. A new baby or an aging grandmother has moved in, and patience runs thin. A family has been short with each other for weeks. People use it to ask for gentleness from everyone, themselves included: lower voices, kinder words.
In Spanish it is Corderito Manso, the meek little lamb, a picture of a gentle heart since the Gospels. It isn't used to bend anyone to your will. It asks that people be a little gentler with each other. People use it in the morning, or before a family visit, with a blue or white candle. The oil is blue, like a calm sky.
Ways to use
- On a candle
- The morning of a hard conversation, put a few drops on a blue seven-day candle. Light it early and say a short prayer that the talk stays calm.
- With a written prayer or photo
- Write the names of everyone in the house on one paper, your own among them, and under them the words you want to hear more often. Put a drop on it and keep it under the candle.
- On doors and windows
- Before relatives come to stay, put a drop at the top of the front door frame, so everyone who walks in comes in gently.
- With offerings
- Put a drop on white flowers left for a grandmother or grandfather who has passed, the one who kept the family patient, and ask for that same patience in the house.
