About this oil

Divine Mercy is the oil for devotion to Jesus of the Divine Mercy, as he appeared to St. Faustina in Poland in 1931: in a white robe, with two rays from his heart, one red and one pale, for the blood and the water. People reach for it when they ask forgiveness, when they pray for a son or daughter who has drifted from God, and when they sit with a loved one near the end.

Three in the afternoon, the hour Christ died, is the Hour of Mercy. The Chaplet of Divine Mercy is prayed on ordinary rosary beads. Its novena starts on Good Friday and ends on Divine Mercy Sunday, the Sunday after Easter. His candle is white. The oil is clear, with a frankincense and myrrh scent.

Ways to use

On a candle
On Good Friday, put a few drops on a white candle and light it when you begin the novena. Pray the chaplet before it at three o'clock.
On the altar and saint statues
Put a drop on the corners of his picture or holy card. Keep the oil off his face and the rays.
With a written prayer or photo
Write the names of the people you are praying for: the ones who have drifted away, the ones who need forgiveness. Put a drop on the paper and set it under the candle.
On charm bags, stones and medals
When someone in the family is near the end, put a drop on a Divine Mercy medal or holy card and leave it at their bedside while you pray the chaplet.
