About this oil
Divine Child is the oil of the Divino Niño Jesús, the Child Jesus standing with his arms open wide, as if to welcome everyone who comes. The devotion was born in 1935 in the 20 de Julio neighborhood of Bogotá, Colombia, and it travels with Colombian families wherever they settle. People come to him for everyday needs: peace in the house, a job for someone in the family, a child starting school, a home that needs his blessing.
Devotees ask him "by the merits of his childhood," the way a child asks a parent, simply and with trust. His big feast in Bogotá is July 20, and his sanctuary there fills every Sunday. His candle is pink or white, from the rose-pink of his tunic. The oil is pink.
Ways to use
- On the altar and saint statues
- On Sunday, put a drop on the base of his statue and on the candle in front of it. Keep the oil off his face and his tunic.
- On a candle
- Put a few drops on a pink or white seven-day candle and light it on a Sunday for the whole family. Say his prayer each day while it burns.
- With a written prayer or photo
- Write your request as simply as a child would ask, with the names of everyone in the family. Put a drop on the paper and keep it under his candle.
- On doors and windows
- When the family moves into a new home, put a drop on the frame of the front door and ask the Divino Niño to bless everyone who comes in.
