About this oil
Binding is the oil people reach for when they want to keep a relationship together. They come for it when a partner's eye has started to wander, when work or distance keeps a couple apart, or when family keeps getting in between. In Spanish it is called Amarre, from amarrar, "to tie." That is the heart of it: two names or two photos, tied together.
People tie the names with a red ribbon or cord and say a prayer with each knot. Two candles are often burned side by side. The candle is red for love, or purple when they want the tie to hold firm. Friday is its day. The oil is purple, with a warm scent of ylang flowers and ginger.
Ways to use
- With a written prayer or photo
- Write both names on one piece of paper, put a few drops of oil on it and fold it toward you. Tie it closed with red ribbon, one knot for each prayer; two photos set face to face are tied the same way.
- On a candle
- Put a few drops on two small red or purple candles, one for each person, and tie them together with ribbon before you light them. With a seven-day candle, set the tied paper under the glass.
- On charm bags, stones and medals
- Keep the tied paper put away somewhere safe in the house, and add a drop of oil to it every Friday.
