About this oil
Santa Marta Dominadora is the oil for devotion to Saint Martha. Martha of Bethany welcomed Christ into her home. An old story tells how she tamed a dragon at Tarascon with holy water and her own sash. People pray to her when something has gotten out of control: a partner who drinks or cheats, a home full of fighting, someone who won't listen, a trouble too big to face alone.
Her day is Tuesday, and many pray her novena, a prayer said on nine Tuesdays in a row. Her feast day is July 29. Her candle is purple or green, lit before her prayer card or statue with fresh flowers. The oil is purple, with a warm ylang-ylang and ginger scent. She is asked with respect, never ordered.
Ways to use
- On the altar and saint statues
- Each Tuesday of the novena, before you start the prayer, put a drop on the base of her statue or on the corners of her prayer card.
- On a candle
- On the first Tuesday, put a few drops on a purple or green seven-day candle. Light a fresh one each Tuesday after that until all nine are done.
- With a written prayer or photo
- Write the person's name and what you are asking her to calm. Set the paper under her statue while the candle burns.
- With offerings
- Put a drop on the stems of the flowers you bring her, or on the rim of a glass of fresh water set beside her candle.
