About this oil

John the Conqueror is named for High John, a hero of African American folk tales. He was a king's son who was enslaved and never broken. People use it when they need to stand firm and come out ahead: a promotion they have earned, a small business up against bigger ones, a hard stretch that has worn them down, a gambler who wants his nerve back.

The oil goes with the root itself. People keep a whole John the Conqueror root in a small red flannel bag and add a few drops every week. It is used on a Sunday, with a purple or gold candle for strength and success, or a green one when the request is about money. The oil is gold.

Ways to use

On charm bags, stones and medals
Keep a whole root in a small red flannel bag and add a few drops every Sunday. The root should be whole, not broken or cut. That is the old way.
On a candle
On a Sunday, put a few drops on a purple seven-day candle for strength, or a gold one for success. Set the root beside the glass while it burns.
With a written prayer or photo
On a piece of paper, write what you want to win: the promotion, the contract or the case. Write your full name under it. Put a drop on the paper, fold it toward you and keep it under the candle.
In your wallet or business
Before a meeting where you have to hold your ground, put a drop on the corners of your wallet or the folder you bring with you.
