About this oil
Horseshoe is the oil people use for steady good luck in the home and the shop. The horseshoe is one of the oldest luck charms there is. Hung over the door with the open end up, it holds the luck in like a cup. People reach for it when they move, when they open a business, or when luck has been thin for a while and they want it to stay this time.
Botanicas sell horseshoes wrapped in red thread and covered with seeds and glitter, often with St. Martin Caballero, the saint on horseback. Many people put fresh oil on the horseshoe on the first of each month. Its candles are green and gold. The oil is green, with a fresh clover scent.
Ways to use
- On doors and windows
- Hang a horseshoe over the front door, open end up. Put a drop on each end and on each nail, and one on the door frame just below it.
- On charm bags, stones and medals
- On the first of each month, add a drop to the horseshoe by the door, or to a small horseshoe charm kept in your wallet.
- In your wallet or business
- In a shop, hang the horseshoe where it can be seen from the register. On Mondays, put a drop in the corners of the cash drawer.
- In the car
- Put a drop on a small horseshoe charm and keep it in the glove box. Add a drop whenever you start a long trip.
