About this oil

Holy Spirit is a devotional oil for prayer to the Holy Spirit, the third Person of the Trinity. People reach for it before a big step, when they want light to see the way: a new job, a move, an exam. Parents and godparents use it when a young person is getting ready for Confirmation, the sacrament of the Holy Spirit.

Its feast is Pentecost, fifty days after Easter. The novena to the Holy Spirit, the oldest novena in the Church, is prayed in the nine days before it, and many families light a white candle each of those days. They begin with the prayer "Come, Holy Spirit." The dove is its sign. The oil is clear, with a frankincense and myrrh scent, the smell of church incense.

Ways to use

On a candle
For the novena before Pentecost, put a drop on a white candle each day for nine days. Say "Come, Holy Spirit" before any other prayer.
With a written prayer or photo
Before an exam, an interview or a first day at work, write in one line what you need light for. Put a drop on the paper and keep it under the candle while you pray.
On charm bags, stones and medals
Before you give a Confirmation medal or cross, put a drop on the back and pray for the young person by name.
On the altar and saint statues
When someone in the family starts something new, put a drop on the corners of a Holy Spirit holy card on the altar and on the candle in front of it.
