About this oil
Archangel Raphael oil is for devotion to the archangel who walked beside young Tobias. In the Book of Tobit he goes with him, unrecognized, to a far city and home again. That is why people pray to him for travelers. They come for it before a long drive, a flight or a pilgrimage, or when a child moves far away. Some also ask him to lead them to a good husband or wife, as he led Tobias to Sarah.
His feast is September 29, with Michael and Gabriel, and many devotees still keep his old day, October 24. He is shown as a traveler with a staff and a fish, the one Tobias pulled from the Tigris River at his word. His candle is green or white.
Ways to use
- In the car
- Before a long trip, put a drop on each tire and on a medal of the archangel kept in the glove box. Ask him to ride along the way he walked with Tobias.
- On charm bags, stones and medals
- When someone leaves home, put a drop on a medal or holy card of the archangel and tuck it in their suitcase or wallet. Add a fresh drop when they call to say they arrived.
- On a candle
- The night before someone travels, put a few drops on a green or white seven-day candle. Write their name and where they are going on a slip of paper and keep it under the glass while they are away.
- On the altar and saint statues
- On September 29 or October 24, put a drop on the base of his statue or the corners of his holy card. Thank him for everyone who made it home.
