About this oil
Separation is the oil people use when a relationship needs to end and won't: a marriage that is over in everything but the papers, a partner who keeps coming back, an outside lover in the home, a friendship that only brings trouble. People use it to loosen the tie so each person can go their own way, without a scene.
People often use it on a Saturday, when the moon is getting smaller, the time for things meant to fade. Its candle is black, or purple for a gentler parting. On the paper, the two names are written back to back. The oil is purple, with a warm ylang and ginger scent close to kananga. Afterward, many people light a white candle for peace.
Ways to use
- With a written prayer or photo
- Write the two names back to back on brown paper, so they face away from each other. Put a drop on the paper, fold it away from you and set it under the candle; some people tear it in two when the candle finishes.
- On a candle
- On a Saturday, when the moon is getting smaller, put a few drops on a purple or black seven-day candle. On a plain candle without glass, spread the oil away from you while you say plainly what needs to end.
- In mop water and around the house
- When the trouble has been living in the house, add a few drops to the mop water. Mop from the back toward the front door and throw the water out.
