About this oil
St. Expedite is the saint people go to when something cannot wait: a payment due on Friday, papers that need an answer this week, a decision someone keeps putting off. Tradition says that when he decided to become a Christian, the devil came to him as a crow crying "cras", Latin for tomorrow. He stepped on the crow and raised a cross that said "hodie": today.
His feast is April 19. His statues show a Roman soldier, and his candle is red. Devotees ask him plainly and promise him a thank-you when the favor comes: fresh flowers, a glass of water, a slice of pound cake as they do in New Orleans. The oil is red, with a rose scent.
Ways to use
- With a written prayer or photo
- Write what you need and the date you need it by, in one or two lines. Put a drop on the paper and set it under his candle.
- On a candle
- Put a few drops on a red seven-day candle and tell St. Expedite what you will give him in thanks once the matter is settled.
- On the altar and saint statues
- Put a drop on the base of his statue and on the candle in front of it. Keep the oil off his face.
- With offerings
- When the favor comes, keep your promise right away. Put a drop on the flowers or on the plate with his slice of pound cake.
