About this oil
Good Student is the oil for someone in school: the homework at the kitchen table, the late nights before finals, the licensing or citizenship test. Mothers and grandmothers often buy it for a child starting at a new school, and adults going back to class ask for it too. People use it with a prayer to stay with the books and remember what they read.
Its candle is white, sometimes with a yellow one beside it. Many families keep a card of Saint Joseph of Cupertino there. He is the patron saint of students and of anyone sitting for an exam. A sprig of rosemary, the old herb of remembrance, often sits on the desk. The oil is clear, with a frankincense and myrrh scent.
Ways to use
- On a candle
- The night before a test, put a few drops on a white seven-day candle on your home altar. Set the class schedule or the exam notice under the glass.
- With a written prayer or photo
- Write the student's full name and the class or the test on a small piece of paper. Put a drop on each corner, fold it toward you and keep it inside a notebook until the term ends.
- On the altar and saint statues
- Put a drop on the corners of a Saint Joseph of Cupertino card and on the candle in front of him. Many students pray his novena in the nine days before a big exam.
- On charm bags, stones and medals
- Put a drop on a sprig of dried rosemary or a small saint medal and keep it in the backpack or the pencil case. Add a drop every week of the school year.
