About this oil
Protection is the oil people use to keep harm away from what they love: the house, the children, the car, the shop. People reach for it when a family moves into a new place, when someone starts the night shift or a long drive, and when there has been trouble on the street or envy at work. It is kept up steadily, not used once like a cleansing.
Protection goes with a white candle, often in front of a saint the family already keeps, St. Michael most of all. Many people put fresh oil on the doors on the first of each month, and again when a stranger has been hanging around. The oil is clear, with a frankincense and myrrh scent, the smell of church incense.
Ways to use
- On doors and windows
- With the oil, mark a small cross on the frame of every outside door and run a line along each threshold. Do it again on the first of the month.
- On a candle
- Put a few drops on a white seven-day candle and set a paper with the names of everyone in the house under the glass. One candle stands for the whole family.
- In the car
- For someone who drives at night or for work, put a drop on the saint medal kept in the glove box, and a drop on each tire at the start of the week.
- On charm bags, stones and medals
- Put a drop on a saint medal or an azabache (a black jet charm) and keep it in a child's school bag. Add another drop every week, on the same day.
